Employee Appreciation Thank You Mr. MonroeIn June of 2009 Holmes Foods started an employee appreciation program that awarded excellent attendance of all plant employees.  We have since handed out thousands of dollars in rewards for perfect attendance.  Some of the prizes have included $10, $20, $25 and even $50 and $75 gift cards and cash prizes.  Scheduled for the December drawing is a $700 big screen television drawing for the employees that have had perfect attendance from June thru December. Pictured below is Plant Manager and Vice President, Fred Barlow, awarding Mr. Glenn Monroe of the Back Dock Trucking Department with a $50 cash prize.  Thank you to all of our employees that put in the effort it takes to make Holmes Foods great every day.

The "Chicken Bowl"
Soccer Match 2009
On May 16, 2009 McAllen finally got the rematch for the beating they received last year. It was apparent that they were much more prepared for the meeting this time, as they had obviously been practicing. But even though our team had not prepared, we definitely made it interesting. After struggling into a 3 - 3 tie well into the last period of play, a Rio Pak player punched in a goal to go up by one point with only 2 seconds left on the clock. All players involved said they had a great time even though the good guys didn't win. This year's Chicken Bowl was held in Beeville at the park. Congratulations Rio Grande Pak on your victory. The series is tied 1 -1, now, and everyone is anticipating the next battle scheduled for September 26th.

Holmes Foods supports our troops memorial day paradeHolmes Foods participated in Nixon's Memorial Day parade to support our troops.  The Nixon-Smiley Community came together to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers that have protected our country's freedoms during the Memorial Day Weekend. The weekend's activities brought the entry of twenty or more participants into the parade and the turnout on the downtown streets was tremendous. It was great to see everyone out supporting our troops.  We feel that freedom isn't free and the price paid by our troops is a sacrifice that should be appreciated.  Holmes Foods would like to thank all the soldiers everywhere for everything they do every day to ensure the safety of all of our families.  Thank you and God Bless you and your families.

Holmes Foods feels it is important to remember those we have served with that have gone before their time. We are dedicating the new break room in the memory of all the Holmes Foods employees that dedicated their lives to making Holmes Foods a better place. There are many loyal employees that have passed on and we would like to show our appreciation to them. We have made a Memorial Plaque with all of their names on it.  We hope to unveil the new memorial before the first of the year to dedicate the the break room in their names.

Christmas in Nixon Though the holiday season is over, the gifts that count are never forgotten. It is great to see that there are still a few people in our community that care enough to take the time to show it and on rare occasions, we get the opportunity to really see the best that human nature has to offer. It isn't everyday that you see Santa and Mrs. Claus flying around on the streets of Nixon with the slay, reindeer and elves all together, but Christmas in Nixon brought just that. Thanks to Miguel, Rosa, Omar and Lilliana Garcia, children all over town were entertained and, if only for a moment, the thought that Santa Claus is not real was forgotten and we were all 8 years old again. Thank you to the Garcia family from all of us.
Lion's Club - Eyeglass Open Golf Tournament left to right: Fred Barlow, Stuart Mueller, Wesley Wolf, Shane ByrdHolmes Foods, Inc., as well other local businesses and poultry industry partners, sponsored the recent Eyeglass Open held by the Nixon Lion's Club on April 18, 2009 at the Bandit Golf Club in McQueeney, Texas.  Holmes Foods donates many dollars every year to this event.  We, also, recruit sponsors and sponsor teams ourselves, to allow Holmes Foods employees the opportunity to participate.  There was an excellent turnout and all proceeds were donated to funding eyeglasses for the needy children in the Nixon community.  Pictured above is the winning team of Fred Barlow (VP/Plant Manager), Stuart Mueller, Wesley Wolf (Maintenance Manager) and Shane Byrd (Special Projects Manager).
